I must
confess that I hadn’t heard of the Icelandic composer Johann Johannson who has
just died at the tragically young age of 48 - but I was very taken with this Song for Europa to which I owe to an amazing
US radio station - KEXP - an affiliate apparently of the University of
Washington…..
Listening
made me realise how much I appreciate some of the more atonal music – I have
always loved Schoenberg’s Verklaerte
Nacht. And the Finnish composer Arvo Paert never fails to touch me eg “Tabula Rasa” and Credo
